 Senior Real Estate SpecialistHello my name is Diana Kopecky: I have a “real life” understanding of the challenges we face when moving from a long time single family residence into whatever is next for us. In my own family I have been responsible for sorting, packing, moving, staging, and selling my father-in-law’s home and my mother’s home. These were very different circumstances. In one we planned ahead, took our time, and made the move leisurely. In the other, circumstances were critical and we were out of time. You can imagine which process was less stressful! Professionally I have helped transition parents and grandparents to sell their homes while working with the children and/or grand children to modify their homes to accommodate the incoming senior (sometimes we even build a new home with a “senior suite”). I have transitioned clients from their homes into everything from Senior’s only apartments to nursing homes. Some of my “boomers” up-size, some downsize. I find there is no “one size fits all” when it comes to these type transitions. Every situation is unique. My job is to help my clients determine what works best for them and then implement that plan. Often when someone has lived in their home for many years the house needs to be updated in order for the family to realize the most profit on a sale. Often the family does not have the time or the financial resources to accomplish this task. This is my forte. I have access to local resources to help the home owner to “sort, pack, and move”, remodel and/or update the home, stage the home prior to putting it on the market, and then market and sell the home. This can be an invaluable service to families who do not live in our local area. Who Are the Seniors Real Estate Specialists®? The SRES® Council awards the SRES® Designation to those members who have successfully completed its education program. By earning the SRES® designation, I have demonstrated necessary knowledge and expertise to counsel clients age 50-plus through major financial and lifestyle transitions involved in relocating, refinancing, or selling the family home.
